Your first orthodontic visit- what to expect!

Whether you are a child or an adult it is common to feel a little nervous or apprehensive when you are going for an orthodontic assessment. Normally people have asked around for a recommendation from their friends and have some idea what to expect. Indeed we have patients from all over Dublin and the neighbouring counties- not just Clontarf! There is a lot of information on the internet – some good and some bad. Do your research! This blog outlines what happens at your first visit and what you can do to prepare for your initial consultation at Clontarf Orthodontics here in Dublin.

Some common questions people want answered are:298315_587010904644818_1158116743_n

  • How long will the treatment take and how much does it cost?
  • Does getting braces hurt?
  • What kind of braces do I need?
  • Will I need retainers?
  • Will braces prevent me from playing my favourite sport or musical instrument?
  • How can I keep my teeth clean with braces?
  • How often are my appointments and do you have out of hours appointments?

Our orthodontic team will be here to help throughout the entire process. Feel free to bring a list of your own questions to the consult. If you forget to ask us something or if we haven’t fully explained your options and treatment to your full satisfaction you can contact us by phone, e mail or in person and we will ensure you have the answers you need.

When you come for your first orthodontic visit the orthodontist will examine your teeth and facial features in detail. Records such as impressions, photographs and x-rays will be taken as necessary. We have digital imagery on site for your convenience and also an in house laboratory.   The specialist orthodontist will then carefully design a treatment plan especially for you and discuss this in detail. A full costing and time frame will also be laid out for you.

When attending your first orthodontic consultation remember there is no such thing as a silly question!  We are here to help make the process an enjoyable one!Braces for every generation
